Devlog 9: Polish 1

Devlog 9: Polish 1

The first Week of the Polish has been completed and we are happy to share with you in what ways we have improved our game.

The biggest improvement we made is the lighting of our scene. We have decided to make the level a night scene instead of daylight. It fits better with the nocturnal habits of racoons and fits a lot better with the start screen image we are using for our game. It also allows us to make the lighting in the garden and in the house look different which makes a lot more sense. We have added a few lanterns in the garden to make sure visibility is not lost, some pretty moonlight and a starry sky.

We have had the backpack models for a while now, but they have finally been added to the raccoons in the game as well now. It makes it easier for the players to recognize their character with the colours of the backpack.

A few improvements have been made in the garden. We have made the steppingstones leading to the door look a bit nicer as well as the bushes. They are a lot more recognizable than they were before.

We have added more depth and detail to our particles and made sure that they move and are placed in a logical way. Almost all the particles have been improved and we even added a new wind particle that will be used in the garden. The particles for the trash have had the most changes. The valuables have a sparkly particle and the actual Trash items have a sickly smelly particle added to them we also tried to make sure the trash doesn’t scale with the distance of the camera. Not all particles have been added to the actual game yet, but we will make sure they are all there by the end of the Polish.

Sounds are in the process of being added. They are not all implemented yet, but we will be sure to have all the sounds by the end of the polish. We will have some nice background music, some ambient sounds and character and prop sounds.

The character selection screen as well as the end screen have been updated and fit the game and the start screen better by adjusting the background image as well as the colours. Some of the buttons have been changed as well to better fit the style.

We have balanced out the values of the trash item to make it fairer and more interesting the highest value item are worth 10 points the lowest value items are worth 1 point and the mid value items are worth 3 points we hope that this way it will be more interesting to go for the high value items that is also why we have made sure that they are easily recognizable by their different particle. But we will make sure to test it out and see what values work best and make the game the most enjoyable.

Last week we noticed that sometimes trash falls out of the level when a player loses their trash, we have made sure that that will not happen anymore, and all the trash stays within the level. We also realised that a player can get hit again after a stun faster than he recovers from a stun so we have fixed that as well.

To make the playing experience more fun we have added vibration feedback to the controllers. The controllers will vibrate whenever the player dies.

Be next week we will make some more updates to the UI, colours particles and sounds.

We hope you will enjoy our game. Have fun and see you next week <3
